Illegal immigrant labor is a controversial topic around the world, but perhaps nowhere more so than in the United States. Estimates of illegals living in the U.S. range from 11 -20 million, with a substantial portion of these employed and working illegally – usually receiving wages well below the minimum. It can be difficult to determine the net economic effect of illegal immigrants – especially when the issue is politically polarized and controversial. What do the numbers say? Are Americans paying a high price for illegal immigrants or is there a positive net benefit? What might the U.S. economy look like if illegal workers were suddenly removed from it? Dr. Sabo will shed light on the economics of illegal immigrant labor in the U.S. and help us navigate through the hype and rhetoric. |
